The boxes are unpacked. The furniture is arranged just the way you like. The calendar is ready for you to fill as you choose, without past obligations or responsibilities. Now comes the best part: fully experiencing all the benefits that are now yours in your senior living home. If it still feels awkward, don’t worry. You’re just getting used to a life without worries!
Say goodbye to former obligations
Things like a leaky roof. Damaged gutters. Raking leaves. Washing windows. Scheduling repairs. Overseeing lawn care. Driving alone at night. Replacing light bulbs. Cleaning bathrooms. Paying homeowner’s insurance. Sweeping the porch. Answering the door late at night. Standing on a ladder. Feeling lonely.
Say hello to having the time of your life
Worry-free, hassle-free days where you are in charge. Dine with friends. Lean how to play bridge. See a movie onsite and munch on free popcorn. Try Pilates. Attend a presentation on another culture. Get your hair done in the salon. Drop by happy hour. Read a book by the pool. Laugh with friends over lunch. Go with the group to visit a museum or nearby nature preserve. Savor time in the garden. Enjoy quiet moments outdoors. Be around like-minded people who are just as passionate about life as you are!
It’s all ahead…now you just have to let yourself enjoy it.

Easy does it: Settling into your new senior living home
Residents of St. Mark Village have the benefit of living in a thriving senior living community filled with activity, companionship, wellness, entertainment and a strong sense of family and belonging. Not to mention seamless access to future care options.
Because we want all our residents to settle into their new homes smoothly so they can start enjoying this amazing lifestyle right away, we’ve put together a few tips:
Take a breath
Don’t try to do everything at once. Enjoy the freedom to just be still and relax occasionally in your senior living home. Instead of joining every activity, pick a few each month. Save some time for your family and visitors. And most importantly, for yourself. Maybe at least one day month is reserved for your recharging: sleeping late. A special breakfast. A trip to the salon for something extra. Watching favorite classic movies all afternoon.
Get to know the staff
Drop by the offices and introduce yourself or just say hello. If convenient, invite someone to lunch, or to drop by your apartment after they are done with work for the day. Build a relationship with the people who are committed to making life in your senior living home as carefree and enjoyable as possible.
Stay involved
Is there a group that regularly meets to discuss ways of helping others? A local charity that could use some helping hands once a week? Ask a few of your neighbors to join you, and pretty soon, you might have a small army of volunteers who are thrilled to be sharing their talents and time.
Invite your family and friends over for dinner
Make use of the private dining room for a special birthday party or anniversary. Or just have them join you for dinner in the community. They’ll love spending the time with you and it helps you feel like you are a host or a hostess sharing your senior living home. After all, you are!
Be patient
Anything new takes time. Setting into your new senior living home is no different. You’ve made a big change, and over time, you will reap big rewards. In the meantime, just be patient with yourself. Each day is an opportunity to try something new, make a new friend, and give yourself a gift of peace of mind. Your senior living home is your opportunity to live as you’ve always wanted. So enjoy!
